Professional qualifications

Independent healthcare information technology consultant with more than 25 years experiences in the field of healthcare IT communication and standardization. Works mainly in Germany and the Netherlands but is also active in whole Europe. Involved in healthcare application and architecture projects in the EU (among others in Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Norway and Lithuania) and outside the EU regarding communication and standardization.

Working in the fields of standardization in healthcare communication, especially the HL7 (Health Level Seven) family of standards like HL7 Version3, the Clinical Document Architecture CDA and Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources FHIR. Involved in projects with all major phases: concept, specification and implementation.

Starting consulting as a company as owner of Heitmann Consulting and Services (The Netherlands) 2004-2008, now continuing this company in Germany, currently owning Heitmann Consulting and Services (Germany).

Deputy head of the Medical Informatics unit at the Institute of Medical Statistics, Informatics and Epidemiology of the University of Cologne until January 2005. Part time work at University of Cologne until end of 2008.

Research and professional subjects: communication standards in healthcare and it’s application, clinical workstations, clinical documentation, EHCR; author/co-author of about 50 scientific papers and other articles as well as author/co-author/editor of 5 scientific books.

Involved in and responsible for HL7 V3/CDA training at manager, user and implementer level in Germany, the Netherlands, and other countries in the EU and outside the EU. In-house training for medium and large companies throughout Europe.

Continuously giving tutorials at HL7 working group meetings and other events. Workshops and tutorials about HL7 V3, Clinical Document Architecture, Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources throughout the world.
